From real stories to SPOKEN PORTRAITS

Spoken Portraits is a creative journey where personal stories become visual and embroidered portraits. Over four months, we explore what it means to live in Tilburg, its diversity, multiculturalism, and the identities shaped through everyday interactions.

 

This journey unfolds in three phases:

 

(Re) Connection

We start by listening. If you have a story to share, we would like to hear it!

Through a relaxed conversation, we’ll create a written narrative of your experience in life and  in Tilburg. Then Miguel, our visual artist, will interpret your story, not through your image, but through your words, crafting what we call a SPOKEN PORTRAIT.

 

The Craft Tellers' Rooms

We'll  bring these stories to life, together in a co-cretive process, with threads and conversations. In cozy meetups at local bars, cafés, and cultural spaces, we gather to embroider the Spoken Portraits together, while we have a meaningful conversation about diversity, belonging, and different experiences in Tilburg. Yes, a casual meeting to embroider, have a beer/coffee and talk about real life, in real life!

The Window

Finally, we open up. The portraits and stories come together in an exhibition where we meet the faces behind the threads, peek into neighbors’ lives, host open discussions, and celebrate the shared experience of living here.
